This is a post of one of my friend’s wedding. We were all in theme so I was wearing the kurta and my wife the sari. Indian weddings are always so colourful and everyone looked absolutely gorgeous in all colour and glam.

Usually, you’d see bikini shots of models at the beach so when there was an opportunity to shoot an international model at a waterfall, I thought to myself that this would be a different experience location wise. And yes was it an experience! I had taken for granted that shooting at a waterfall nearby KL would be rather easy only little that I realized that the waterfall wasn’t like a little stream. It was a full fledged 6 stories high! LOL. In hindsight, I wasn’t expecting the shoot to be actually inside the waterfall itself and I quickly noted that this would be what one should prepare when shooting at the waterfalls.
- Rubber soled shoes or even better diving boots
- First aid kit for cuts and anitseptic.
- Plastic wrap your flash and if possible have a hand band around it, in case it drops. You don’t want it to be swept away.
- A walking staff would have been good to help both the model get about in the waterfall and photographers too cos the rocks were very slippery
- Waterproof camera bag if possible cos you may just want to chuck your bag where ever and when ever closeby
- A towel is definitely good. To dry yourself up.
- Mosquito repellent
- Spare flash and body especially if you have one of those lovely knapsacks from ThinkTank
- Remote flash trigger for Canon (Nikon users have CLS although this would get triggered when other photographers snap away)
- Bring your camera hoods to protect it a little bit more from splash from the waterfall
It was real fun but dangerous at the same time as we had to position ourselves in places which got just as wet as the model and the rocks were very slippery. I actually almost fell a few times and I did fall face forward one time and my camera took a pretty hard knock on the rock. Luckily I was in shallow waters and didn’t get my whole body submerged instead. Fortunately my lens filter rim took the knock instead of the glass itself and everything was still ok.
My respect goes to the model Cay, as she was very professional, accommodating and easy to get along with and she posed with ease at various difficult spots. Ultimately, I wanted to get a glorious shot of the model in sports illustrated style lighting. All my shots were with my 5DMKII with 24-70mm 2.8 lens and a single EX580 with a beauty dish type diffuser. Here are some of mine and her favorites.

Shooting beautiful pre-wedding photos can be rather tricky, as you always pray and hope the weather would be nice and sunny. On that particular Saturday we were planning for the shoot, the sky was very gloomy! We left about 2pm and it already started to rain heavily. The groom joked that when ever his wife planned for a shoot it rained ![]()
We persevered to FRIM nonetheless, and when we reached, the dark clouds didn’t seem to want to go away. A few calls here and there and we realized it was raining from Sekinchan to Sepang! I think patience and hope is a virtue and we all sat in place at the FRIM car park and chatted a while hoping that the rain would somehow magically go away. But the skies were dark and grey as far as the eye could see. I started to theorize from my boys scout days, that if the winds were blowing in the right direction, there may be hope that the rain would go away. I glanced to the skies and with a little bit of prayer, wished that the clouds would clear up. 15 mins passed, no hope, 20 mins passed no sign of hope… 30 mins passed.. we noticed a little sunshine coming through the clouds! Our prayers must have been answered because very shortly after, the blue skies appeared. Yeah! A lesson I am reminded of…have hope, persevere, make do with the time you have, a prayer and a little bit of boy scouts observation gave us a better view of things before concluding that all hope was gone. We had a lovely time shooting for almost 3 hours! Here are some of the shots.

Just as we grow from a child to an adult, I am in the process of growing my passion to the next level and have rebranded my web site from Teng|Photography to Teng|Studio. This rebranding in name symbolizes my development into another area of photography: studio services and any photography that involves the setup of studio lights or strobes. This photo blog theme is from NetRivet and to many this design may look very familiar as it is being adopted by many photographers out there. I believe what’s more important is not the web page design but the photographer’s photography style and services being offered.
One of my projects will be to set up a creative studio and perhaps develop KK as a destination wedding location. Ideas are flourishing in my head and I will be on the look out for like minded photographers who want to do something different. I currently have a set of studio lights and backdrops which I can easily port around to provide family portrait photography right to your doorsteps. A lot of families would like to take their family portrait but find themselves needing to drive all the way to a photo shop or a studio and often this would be rather inconvenient for babies and the elderly.
