  • Hi, I'm Alan and I'm a destination wedding photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was born and
raised in KK, Sabah and I love photographing people mostly. That's why currently I shoot mostly portraiture and weddings. I like to shoot with a style that's creative, natural and relaxed.

I especially love weddings as every couple is so unique and I am excited with every job and treat every wedding as if it were my own because I understand that a wedding couple wants their photographer to capture every special moment on their wedding day, but yet remain unobtrusive and ready at a moments call.

I also operate a mobile portraiture studio for families who wish to have a family portrait shoot in the comfort of their homes, or even special requests for glamor and artistic portraiture. Do drop me an sms (+6010-2213891) and I'll be happy to answer any requests you may have and have a chat to discuss your needs and ideas.

2011 Highlights

It was a very busy 2011 year at work as well as with my photography jobs, so much so I am guilty of not updating my site. I must make amends, and so here’s some of my 2011 highlights. I must thank all my friends and clients who have happily referred their friends to me. And at the same time I would like to wish all a Happy New Year 2012 and for my chinese friends, Gong Xi Fa Chai. May the year of the dragon bring you abundant joy, prosperity and good health.

Model Shoot at Waterfall

Usually, you’d see bikini shots of models at the beach so when there was an opportunity to shoot an international model at a waterfall, I thought to myself that this would be a different experience location wise. And yes was it an experience! I had taken for granted that shooting at a waterfall nearby KL would be rather easy only little that I realized that the waterfall wasn’t like a little stream. It was a full fledged 6 stories high! LOL. In hindsight, I wasn’t expecting the shoot to be actually inside the waterfall itself and I quickly noted that this would be what one should prepare when shooting at the waterfalls.

- Rubber soled shoes or even better diving boots

- First aid kit for cuts and anitseptic.

- Plastic wrap your flash and if possible have a hand band around it, in case it drops. You don’t want it to be swept away.

- A walking staff would have been good to help both the model get about in the waterfall and photographers too cos the rocks were very slippery

- Waterproof camera bag if possible cos you may just want to chuck your bag where ever and when ever closeby

- A towel is definitely good. To dry yourself up.

- Mosquito repellent

- Spare flash and body especially if you have one of those lovely knapsacks from ThinkTank

- Remote flash trigger for Canon (Nikon users have CLS although this would get triggered when other photographers snap away)

- Bring your camera hoods to protect it a little bit more from splash from the waterfall

It was real fun but dangerous at the same time as we had to position ourselves in places which got just as wet as the model and the rocks were very slippery. I actually almost fell a few times and I did fall face forward one time and my camera took a pretty hard knock on the rock. Luckily I was in shallow waters and didn’t get my whole body submerged instead. Fortunately my lens filter rim took the knock instead of the glass itself and everything was still ok.

My respect goes to the model Cay, as she was very professional, accommodating and easy to get along with and she posed with ease at various difficult spots. Ultimately, I wanted to get a glorious shot of the model in sports illustrated style lighting. All my shots were with my 5DMKII with 24-70mm 2.8 lens and a single EX580 with a beauty dish type diffuser. Here are some of mine and her favorites.

Pre-wedding at FRIM

Shooting beautiful pre-wedding photos can be rather tricky, as you always pray and hope the weather would be nice and sunny. On that particular Saturday we were planning for the shoot, the sky was very gloomy! We left about 2pm and it already started to rain heavily. The groom joked that when ever his wife planned for a shoot it rained :)

We persevered to FRIM nonetheless, and when we reached, the dark clouds didn’t seem to want to go away.  A few calls here and there and we realized it was raining from Sekinchan to Sepang! I think patience and hope is a virtue and we all sat in place at the FRIM car park and chatted a while hoping that the rain would somehow magically go away. But the skies were dark and grey as far as the eye could see.  I started to theorize from my boys scout days, that if the winds were blowing in the right direction, there may be hope that the rain would go away. I glanced to the skies and with a little bit of prayer, wished that the clouds would clear up. 15 mins passed, no hope, 20 mins passed no sign of hope… 30 mins passed.. we noticed a little sunshine coming through the clouds! Our prayers must have been answered because very shortly after, the blue skies appeared. Yeah!  A lesson I am reminded of…have hope, persevere, make do with the time you have, a prayer and a little bit of boy scouts observation gave us a better view of things before concluding that all hope was gone.   We had a lovely time shooting for almost 3 hours! Here are some of the shots.
